Farmer's Market, Hilo, Hawaii
Hilo is on the tropical, rainy side of the Big Island of Hawaii. The Farmer's Market provides an opportunity to buy Island flowers and produce directly from the growers at very good prices.

Shopping for anthuriums. The exotic anthuriums are beautiful and durable, making them a prime export item for local growers. The smooth glossy surface makes real ones look like plastic, at least at a first glance.

There is a large range of local produce for sale.

Anthuriums are commonly red, but now there are white, pink, green, and purple varieties too. Papayas must be dead ripe to be flavorful. A good papaya is worth a trip from almost anywhere. In March of 2000 large papayas were three for a dollar at the Hilo market, at the same time they were $3.46 each California. (OK, so in Hawaii they get you for electricity and stuff like that.)

Mangos, two kinds of lychee, pineapples, sapote, and Chinese lemons are among this vendor's offerings.

Fresh fish from Hawaiian waters. Colorful reef fish taste very good too.
