Bodega Bay is a town on the north coast of California, a pleasant hour and half drive north of San Francisco. (Go north over the Golden Gate Bridge on Highway 101 to Petaluma, then turn west at the Washington Street exit and follow the road all the way to the coast.)  These photographs were taken on an afternoon in January, 2000.

This is near the first commercial complex one encounters coming from the San Francisco direction. There is a second one a little further along.

The chances of getting a sea gull to pose for you are quite good.  Excellent, in fact.

The original restaurant on this bay front site in the second commercial pier area was used in Alfred Hitchcocks The Birds. The current modern restaurant was built a year or two ago. The food is good.

Nostalgia aside, the new facility is spacious and attractive. The old restaurant was for the Birds.

Clever baked goods greet tourists. Prices are suited to the paying off of the new building, but what the heck, the view is worth it.

The Bay retains working fishing piers.

Folks can dine outdoors near the fish and chips shop. A huge whale head bone is on display.

The rugged Sonoma coast just north of Bodega Bay.  The ocean surf is a contrast to the quiet waters of the Bay.
