When rendering an image with a bump map, it is necessary to remove the the shading from material's the color map. This will ultimately make the object look more realistic, as the scene lighting and bump map determine how a shaded object will appear.
Using tools provided by most bitmap editing programs, it is possible to do this manually. The Bump Removal Tool plug-in is designed to remove shading automatically. The plug-in uses the original color image and a grey-scale bump map to deduce shaded areas within the image. The bump map source may be calculated from the Shape From Shading plug-in, or generated by the artist using a bitmap editing program. For the best results, however, an accurate the bump map that corresponds with source image will render a better image.
