What is the cost of the system?
$23,500 plus shipping and applicable taxes for the system including a non-ruggedized helmet-mounted display. Add $1,475 plus shipping and applicable taxes for the ruggedized helmet-mounted display.
What is the field-of-view of the helmet-mounted display?
The instantaneous field-of-view is 28 degrees H, 21 degrees V and the total field-of-regard with head motion is more than 180 degrees H and V. Optional wide field-of-view helmet-mounted displays are available. Please inquire.
Are graphics card upgrades available for the DS-100?
Yes, higher image quality is available with an optional antialiased 3-D graphics accelerator. While the DS-100 employs a state-of-the-art 3-D graphics accelerator that produces high-quality images such as those shown in figures 1, 4, 5a, and 5b, an upgraded graphics accelerator will produce even higher quality imagery. The quality of thin lines and edges will be noticably improved, for example. As of December 1999, an upgrade to an image generator with full scene antialiasing would be about $7500, but prices are dropping rapidly in the competitive market for PC graphics.
What are the floor space requirements for the system?
The DS-100 requires approximately 25 square feet of floor space. The DS-100 employs an optical head position tracker that does not interfere with adjacent units, so multiple DS-100s can be placed close to each other.
Does CGSD offer custom versions of the DS-100 hardware and software?
Yes. The DS-100 can be modified to meet many vehicle simulation requirements. For instance, the driver’s vehicle could be changed to be a truck, forklift, or some other vehicle type. Such a change would require the creation of a new visual database of the driver’s vehicle and new motion model parameters for it. Please inquire about your unique requirements.
Will there be a motion base available for the DS-100?
Yes, soon. A three degree-of-freedom motion base is being developed for the DS-100. Please inquire.
Is there a networked option?
Yes. While the DS-100 contains computer-controlled moving traffic, there is no substitute for having real people control other vehicles in the simulation scene. Networked simulators allow real people to control some or all of the other vehicles in the simulation scene, adding variety and unpredictability to simulation experiences.
Can additional weather effects be provided?
Yes, please call to discuss your particular requirements.
Are custom databases available?
Yes, custom databases can be created to meet specific requirements. While the DS-100 database provides a wide variety of driving environments, it is certainly possible certain specific needs are not addressed. Please call to discuss your particular requirements.
Is software to measure driver performance available?
CGSD does not currently have performance measuring software, but writing such software is possible. Such software could measure a variety of things. It could measure the time it takes the driver to react to a dangerous situation, measure his ability to keep the vehicle centered in the traffic lane at various speeds, measure his ability to back up in a straight line, or measure almost any other performance parameter. Please call to discuss your particular requirements.
